Information collected

We collect information from visitors to this website via the following:

  • To process transactions and send out relevant information about your order (e.g. order confirmation emails, shipping emails)
  • Through the use of online forms (such as using the 'contact us' form)
  • Analytics data to help us improve our store

Use of personal information

We process personal information collected via this website for the purposes of:

  • Providing and personalising our services
  • Dealing with your enquiries and requests
  • Providing you with information about our products and services
  • Administering orders and accounts relating to our suppliers or customers
  • Administering membership records
  • Maintaining information as a reference tool or general resource
  • Carrying out market research campaigns
  • Crime prevention and prosecution of offenders

Please note we routinely delete customer accounts that have not placed an order with us within the last 2 years. We do not keep user data longer than necessary and as such remove data we consider to be old periodically.

Marketing

Your information may be used to send you details of products or services we offer that we have identified as likely to be of interest to you. If you indicated any preferences when providing us with your data, we will use these to determine what information we provide you with.

If at any point you would like to opt-out of receiving marketing emails from us, please use the unsubscribe links at the bottom of the emails we send. Some emails do not have an unsubscribe link as they are considered 'transactional' emails - that is they are essential to providing you with a service. An example of these include password reset emails and order confirmation emails.

To unsubscribe from any other form of communication (e.g. post), please contact the Customer Care Team using the contact details at the top of this page.

From time to time we would like to be able to pass your information to carefully selected third parties that offer products or services that we have identified as likely to be of interest to you.

We use Google Analytics and Piwik Pro on our website. We do not see your personal data through this tool. Instead we use it to track anonymous usage of our website to help us adapt and improve our services.

We may use remarketing and other marketing tools on our website and use these to advertise to visitors of our website externally (e.g. through adverts on other websites). We do not see your personal data or know who you are with these tools.

We may run other marketing tools on our website in order to better understand its usage and any issues that may arise. All data is anonymised.

By entering into an agreement with us when you placed an order, entered a competition or prize draw run by us or on our behalf you have consented to this use of your data. For example we may use your name and details to contact you, or we might use the photos we collect in our advertising.

We may feature your reviews and submitted product or wildlife photos on our website and in our adverts. We may mention you by name, but never your location or contact details.

You may ask us at any point not to share your information with third parties for this purpose, by contacting the Customer Care Team using the details at the top of this page.

Disclosures

We will only disclose data to other companies within our group of companies (The Garden and Home Trading Company). We may also transmit your data to companies we work with in order to provide you with a service - for example we use an external third party service to send marketing emails. All companies we work with store data on secure servers compliant with GDPR. We may also be required to send data to government bodies and law enforcement agencies in rare occassions. Should the business be sold, the successors in title to our business will receive your data in order to continue providing you with a service.

Other websites

Our website may contain links to other websites that are outside our control and are not covered by this Privacy Policy. If you access other sites using the links provided, the operators of these sites may collect information from you that will be used by them in accordance with their privacy policy, which may differ from ours. We cannot be held responsible for the processes of these third parties.

Subject access requests

You have the right to see what personal data we hold about you.  To obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you, please write to us using the details at the top of this page. This is usually free, however we reserve the right to charge a fee if the request is excessive.

Internet-based transfers

Given that the Internet is a global environment, using it to collect and process personal data necessarily involves the transmission of data on an international basis.  This means for instance that data you pass to us may be processed outside the European Economic Area, although the data will always be held securely and in line with the requirements of UK data protection legislation. By communicating electronically with us, you acknowledge and agree to our processing of personal data in this way.

Use of cookies

A cookie is a small piece of information sent by a web server to a web browser, which enables the server to collect information from the browser. We use cookies on our website to provide you with the best possible service, but you can disable them. You can do this via the controls on our website when you first visit us, or using the settings in your web browser.

We use cookies to identify you when you visit this website and to keep track of your browsing patterns and build up a profile. We might for example use this information to show you more relevant products on our site, include those products in our marketing emails (if you are subscribed to them), or to personalise your experience.

Most browsers will allow you to turn off cookies. If you want to know how to do this please look at the menu on your browser, or look at the instruction on the ICO. Please note however that turning off cookies will restrict your use of our website.

By continuing to use this site you are agreeing to the use of cookies as detailed above.

SMS Service

The SMS mobile message service (the "Service") is operated by Bargain Bird Food. Your use of the Service constitutes your agreement to these terms and conditions (“Mobile Terms”). We may modify or cancel the Service or any of its features without notice. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we may also modify these Mobile Terms at any time and your continued use of the Service following the effective date of any such changes shall constitute your acceptance of such changes.

If you choose to consent to Bargain Bird Food’s SMS/text messaging service, you agree to receive recurring SMS/text messages from and on behalf of Bargain Bird Food through your wireless provider to the mobile number you provided. Text messages may be sent using an automatic telephone dialling system or other technology. Service-related messages may include updates, alerts, and information (e.g., order updates, account alerts, etc.). Promotional messages may include promotions, specials, and other marketing offers (e.g., cart reminders).

You understand that you do not have to sign up for this program in order to make any purchases, and your consent is not a condition of any purchase with Bargain Bird Food. Your participation in this program is completely voluntary.

We do not charge for the Service, but you are responsible for all charges and fees associated with text messaging imposed by your wireless provider. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Check your mobile plan and contact your wireless provider for details. You are solely responsible for all charges related to SMS/text messages, including charges from your wireless provider.

You may opt-out of the Service at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link (where available) in any text message to cancel. Alternatively reply with the single word STOP. You'll receive a one-time opt-out confirmation text message. No further messages will be sent to your mobile device, unless initiated by you. If you have subscribed to other Bargain Bird Food mobile message programs and wish to cancel, except where applicable law requires otherwise, you will need to opt out separately from those programs by following the instructions provided in their respective mobile terms.

We may change any short code or telephone number we use to operate the Service at any time and will notify you of these changes. You acknowledge that any messages, including any STOP requests, you send to a short code or telephone number we have changed may not be received and we will not be responsible for honouring requests made in such messages.

The wireless carriers supported by the Service are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. You agree to provide us with a valid mobile number. If you get a new mobile number, you will need to sign up for the program with your new number.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that we will not be liable for failed, delayed, or misdirected delivery of any information sent through the Service, any errors in such information, and/or any action you may or may not take in reliance on the information or Service.
