About Our 12.55kg Calci Worms
Calci Worms (also known as Calcium Worms) are the larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens). They are high in protein, energy giving fat, amino acids and incredibly high in calcium which will provide your wild birds with a variety of health benefits.
Calcium contributes to good bone strength in growing and adult birds, alongside helping in the development of strong eggshells as birds with a healthy calcium intake are also likely to lay more eggs.
Do you do smaller bags?
We pride ourselves in our bargain prices and as such we don't currently offer any smaller bag sizes. By only offering larger bag sizes, we can keep our costs down and provide you with the cheaper prices you see on our site today. If 12.55kg is a little too heavy for you, we recommend taking some of the Calci Worms out of the bag when it arrives at your house (e.g. split the bag between two).
When to feed
Calci Worms can be fed to your garden birds all year round. With their high protein and fat content, they are especially beneficial during Autumn and Winter when birds require extra energy to survive the frosty nights and natural food sources are harder to find.
How to feed
Our 12.55kg Calci Worms can be easily fed from a bird table, ground feeder or mealworm feeder. As Calci Worms can be fed to birds on their own or added to a seed mix, they can also be fed from a seed feeder when added to a mix. Soak the Calci Worms in warm water for 30 minutes before you put them out to pack in extra moisture and hydration for your wild birds.
How to store
All of our bird foods should be stored in an airtight container to preserve them for as long as possible. If you do not have an airtight container, a cool dry place will suffice, but we do recommend a container to help keep them in their best quality for as long as possible.
Birds you might attract to your garden
Calci Worms are known to entice a range of birds to your feeders, particularly the Robin who favours them. Keep a look out for the following species when feeding with this high protein treat:
Blackbirds, Blue Tits, Robins, Sparrows, Song Thrushes and Wrens.
Are Calci Worms safe for Hedgehogs?
Calcium worms are a nutritious and tasty meal for our spiky friends due to the high calcium, fat and protein content. The healthy balance of calcium and phosphorus in Calci Worms means that unlike mealworms, they are safe for hedgehogs to eat.
